After two years of solid market returns, what value remains is likely in the bigger blue chip type names. Large cap quality stocks significantly underperformed their smaller cap, lesser quality cousins. While blue chips had a better showing in 2010, some look poised to deliver attractive results in 2011.
As a result of future U.S. budget concerns and the likelihood that even the defense budget won't be spared, shares in defense stocks have not been investors' favorites. The result is quality companies that look incredibly priced and likely to reward patient investors. Investing in society's essentials is not a bad idea during tough economic times. However, even those investments should show signs of growth and value creation, or the shares may not follow suit.
